In accordance with Bank Indonesia Regulation (PBI) Number 14 of 2023, Bank Indonesia retracts and recalls 3 (three) types of Indonesian Rupiah coin denominations from circulation (IDR 500 emission year 1991, denomination IDR 1,000 emission year 1993, and denomination IDR 500 emission year 1997) as of 1 December 2023.
Therefore, starting from that date, the mentioned Indonesian Rupiah coins cannot be used as a legal payment instrument in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. Bank Indonesia has set a period until 1 December 2033 for the public to exchange money that has been retracted and recalled. Exchange of coins with valid emissions can be done at Bank Indonesia or commercial Banks.
