PermataBank, along with PannaFoto Institute, held the 10th Permata Photojournalist Grant, which was conducted 100% online. This event presented the work of all participants virtually through a website with the latest appearance.
Jakarta - After undergoing various online sessions for three months, the 10th Permata Photojournalist Grant (PPG) finally announced the 10 selected photo journalists along with the relaunch of the updated PPG website. This activity is the highlight of One Decade Permata Photojournalist Grant which was held on 7-9 April 2021 with the Editor's Talk 'Peran Editor Masa Kini' which featured three well-known photo editors (Adek Berry, Dwi Prasetya and Muhammad Fadli) and Editor's Choice' Selected Works of PPG 2011-2020” featuring international independent photo curator, Jenny Smets, as the opening act.
Since the commencement of PPG, as many as 95 photo journalists from 35 media outlets in Indonesia have successfully conducted this program. 80 photographers from various communities have participated in the Training of Trainers program and more than 1,200 participants have attended public seminars that are part of this program.
"We are grateful that even with the current situation and conditions, we can continue to hold the 10th Permata Photojournalist Grant which is conducted 100% online. Through a good partnership with PannaFoto, the 10th PPG program can overcome geographic constraints that have been our concern, and reach more photojournalists and freelance photojournalists in various regions in Indonesia. Throughout one decade, PPG has been showing its consistency in improving the quality of photojournalists in Indonesia," said Dhien Tjahajani, the Director of Legal and Compliance at PermataBank while giving a speech at the highlight session of One Decade of PPG.
The theme of the 10th PPG is Hope, which can be optimistically interpreted as stories that are expected to inspire readers. However, participants can also select stories from other perspectives to encourage the participants to empathize with the photographed subject.
This year, PPG has granted 10 (ten) photo journalists from 8 media outlets and 2 freelance photo journalists in Indonesia. They are photo journalists with a maximum age of 38 years old and are actively working or contributing to print and online media. From November 2020 to February 2021, they have received grants and various online training sessions with the main material of photo stories and supporting materials which was delivered by mentors such as Sasa Kralj (Croatia), Jenny Smets (Netherlands), independent curators for the photography and art exhibition, educators, consultants and photo editors. Also, this program involved several permanent mentors from the PannaFoto Institute such as Edy Purnomo, Rosa Panggabean and Yoppy Pieter as well as several other PPG alumni.
The following is the title of the works and the names of the participants:
In adjusting to the current pandemic situation, all the works of the 10th PPG graduates are appreciated in a virtual form through the PPG website which has been relaunched with the latest appearance. Previously, in welcoming the highlight event, 15 IG Live sessions were also held which broadcasted conversations between organizers, administrators and alumni regarding various topics in the current photography ecosystem.
