PermataBank Net Profit After Tax Up 62%

JAKARTA - PT Bank Permata Tbk ("PermataBank") today announced net profit after tax (consolidated - audited) of Rp. 521 billion in the first half of 2010, a strong increase of 62% year-on-year (YoY) from Rp. 321 billion from the same period in 2009.

PermataBank also announced improved operating performance in the first half of the year. Total operating revenue increased 9% yoy to Rp. 2,003 billion driven by growth in interest income and fee based income. Net Interest Income grew 21% YoY to reach Rp. 1,582 billion.

The Bank continued to optimize its intermediary function in the Indonesian economy, as reflected in its loan book which recorded strong growth of 19% YoY to Rp. 43.9 trillion at the end of the period. Total assets on a consolidated basis as of 30 June 2010 was Rp. 62.8 trillion, an increase of 16% YoY, cementing PermataBank's position as one of the top 10 Banks in Indonesia in terms of assets.

Third Party deposits grew 16% yoy to Rp. 48.9 trillion. Current accounts and saving accounts recorded robust increases of 33% yoy and 36% yoy to Rp. 11.5 trillion and Rp. 10.4 trillion respectively, whilst time deposits posted 4% yoy increase to Rp. 27.0 trillion at the end of 1H10. Consequently we managed to improve the mix of our deposits and our CASA ratio to 45% compared to 39% in the same period last year (this data excludes sharia fundings).

PermataBank also demonstrated continued improvement in the quality of its loan book and risk management systems, as reflected in its net Non Performing Loan (NPL) ratio which significantly improved from 2.5% in 1H09 to 0.9% in 1H10, well below the 5% maximum allowed under Bank Indonesia guidelines.

The Bank's capital structure remains strong with shareholder's equity amounting to Rp 5,450 billion in 1H10, a 17% YoY increase compared to the same period last year. Capital Adequacy Ratio improved by 65 bps yoy to 13.9%, which is well above the Bank Indonesia minimum requirement of 8%. Other key financial ratios also reflect improvement: Return on Asset (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE) are up 68 bps and 696 bps yoy to 2.4% and 25.1% respectively, whilst BOPO was down 550 bps yoy to 81.6%.

Another encouraging development was the strong performance of the Bank's Sharia banking unit, which has been continuously strengthened by leveraging PermataBank's existing network and infrastructure. PermataSyariah recorded a strong growth of 100% yoy in net profit from Rp. 29 billion in 1H09 to Rp. 59 billion in 1H10.

Commenting on the results, David Fletcher, President Director of PermataBank remarked, "These encouraging results underlines the strength of our banking model and franchise and reflects our commitment to be a force in supporting the economy. We will continue improving our infrastructure and capabilities as we systematically pursue opportunities in the Indonesian banking market."

PermataBank continues to optimize and expand its network footprint in 2010 by relocating and opening new branches and ATMs in order to enable better penetration and coverage, increase customer service and to serve customers better. Presently the Bank has 276 conventional and dedicated sharia branches and 577 ATMs in 55 cities across Indonesia.

During the first half of 2010, Permata Bank won a number of awards, including the recent awards as the Best National Bank 2010, The Most Profitable and The Most Efficient Sharia Unit 2009, Best Bank for Cash Management in Indonesia 2010 and the first rank in the Annual Call Center Award for Service Excellence.
