Ajay Chamanlal Kanwal, Commissioner, Age 43

Indian citizen. Appointed as Commissioner of PermataBank pursuant to the resolutions of PermataBank’s EGMS on 12 August 2009 and obtained approval from Bank Indonesia on 20 October 2009. He joined Standard Chartered Bank in 1992 in India as Senior Manager of Credit Card Control & Collection, where he later held several other senior roles including Head of Business Financial Services, Head of Marketing for Personal Banking, and Head of Sales for Consumer Banking. In 2001, Ajay moved to Philippines as General Manager of Credit Cards & Personal Loans and then Head of Consumer Banking, and in 2003 was appointed Head Consumer Banking for Thailand. Subsequently in March 2006, he was appointed as Head of Consumer Banking of Singapore and was then appointed as Regional Head of Consumer Banking, South East Asia, Standard Chartered Bank in December 2008, a role he currently holds.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from J.N. Engineering College, Aurangabad, India, as well as a Master degree in Management Studies from L.N.W. Institute of Management Studies and Research.
